What Does an Antenna Rotator Do?

If you aren't familiar with antenna rotators and their function, don't worry, we'll explain everything. Essentially, rotators do exactly what their name implies; they rotate the antenna to adjust the direction it's facing. They're most commonly used in radio or television, but they're also frequently used in amateur radio set-ups to optimise signal reception.

Who says you can’t teach an old wrecker new tricks!!! You will see a familiar piece of equipment in the Miller Industries Booth #228 at the Baltimore Show next week. Back by popular demand is the Holmes®️ 600R 16-Ton Rotator.

The 600R offers 32,000 lbs. of retracted boom capacity and 12,000 lbs. of extended boom capacity and it rotators 213 degrees (106.5° each side). A new feature over the previous version is the integration of a 12,000 lb.-rated Knee Boom Underlift. This newly redesigned knee boom underlift vastly expands the towing capabilities of the 600R.

The knee boom underlift offers towers an impressive 81 inches of reach from the tailboard of the wrecker to the centerline of the towing fork. The redesigned 600R underlift also provides towers with the flexibility of 41.5 inches of maximum horizontal height for towing in a variety of applications. Having standard equipment like the 4,000 lb. rated light-weight aluminum scoops, 6,000 lb. rated steel “L” arms, pivoting receivers, removable wheel retainers, 3 sets of cast steel towing forks, and a knee boom underlift with a fully extended rating of 9,000 lbs., makes the 600R ideal for towing everything from fixed frame inner-city trucks to passenger vehicles.

This Holmes unit comes standard with dual 15,000 lb.-rated planetary winches complete with spring tensioner and air free spool. There is also an option to add an 8,000 lb. drag winch for added recovery capability. The unit comes with front hydraulic extendable top-beam style outriggers and rear hydraulic outriggers with manual extensions.
