A fan limit switch simply tells the furnace blower when to turn on and off.
Also known as upper limit switches, your heat exchanger is susceptible to cracking from overheating, but the limit switch can prevent this by automatically shutting off the furnace. Also, if the gas or oil has not sufficiently heated the exchanger, the switch won't let the blower activate for improved temperature management.
